ID Protection, sometimes also called WHOIS or Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the genuine contact details of domain registrants on WHOIS check sites. Without protection, the name, home address and email account of any domain name owner will be freely accessible. Giving false details during the registration process or altering the real info afterwards will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing their ownership of the domain name. The policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, require that the WHOIS information must be valid and accurate all the time. The ID Protection service was launched by domain name registrars as an answer to the arising concerns for potential identity theft. If the service is active, the domain name registrar’s contact information will appear instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the ID Protection service, even though there are certain country-code ones that don’t.

ID Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you have ordered a shared web hosting plan from our company and you’ve registered one or more domain names under your account, you’ll be able to activate ID Protection for any of them without any effort and to keep your personal details secure. Of course, this will be possible only with the extensions that support such a service. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you will see an “ID Protect” button next to each of your domains. Its color will let you know if a domain is ID-protected or not and in the second case, you can add ID Protection with just a few mouse clicks. Thus, you can shield your private details even if you have not added the service during the hosting account activation process. You will be able to renew or to disable the ID Protection service for any of your domains just as easily.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

Enabling ID Protection for any domain is remarkably easy in case you have a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered with us, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is included with each semi-dedicated plan. In case a specific generic or country-specific domain name is ID Protection-eligible, you’ll see a tiny icon next to that domain. To activate the service, you’ll have to click on it. In the exact same manner, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can order ID Protection for a domain upon registration too, but since the service is optional, we’ll give you the chance to add it to any of your domains at a later time in case you change your mind and opt to hide your private information from the public after you’ve already created the semi-dedicated account.
